Sun and Pluto in Love Synastry: Sign Codependency or Intense Bliss?

The Sun and Pluto aspects in Love Synastry is considered to be a mighty powerful one. Regardless of whether the aspect is an opposition, conjunction, square, etc. it is thought that the relationship is quite likely to have a powerful influence on both parties involved. It is likely to begin with a bang and the feelings run so deep that maturity and balance must be sustained throughout the development of this bond.

The Pluto and the Sun in love synastry is a powerful one. The Sun finds the Pluto person mesmerizing and there is a strong attraction and overall magnetism that draws the two of them together. The Pluto person often has an ineffable effect on the Sun and despite mutual fascination, the Pluto person is thought to hold the upper hand in the relationship. The plutonian holds the reigns or in other words, determines the “fate” or deduces the direction the couple shall go.

One reason is the plutonian flattery received by the Sun. The Pluto person holds this depth about them that draws the Sun in and all the while showers the Sun with this enchanting attention the sun craves. This isn’t to suggest that the Sun is a person that requires attention or that there is a need for praise or admiration. It is just how this combination is reputed to function. The Pluto effect of attention applied upon the Sun causes the Sun an enhanced ego boost and a feeling of being “special” or “unique” specifically from being the focus of the Pluto person.

This is not a superficial relationship at all. This isn’t a couple solely drawn to one another’s physical appearance and parading around a trophy partner. This combo provides the depth, magnetism, passion and intensity. The plutonian powers bestowed onto the Pluto person gives them an ability into the Sun on a very intimate level, effortlessly stimulating the Sun to reveal all their secrets, innermost feelings and thoughts. The Sun, without suspicion, opens up with enthusiasm to the Pluto person. The depth of their relationship and bond provides consolation that encourages the sun in exposing all that Pluto seeks to know. Pluto, in turn, effortlessly gains acute insight into the Sun’s vulnerabilities and weaknesses.

The Sun person, depending on personal planets and aspects, could exhibit an independent nature and may easily mingle with those outside of their intimate relationship. This could cause the Pluto person to feel threatened or uneasy with the Sun person’s behavior. Remember, Pluto is the natural ruler of the zodiac archetype Scorpio; reputed as the master of manipulation, possessive in love, and in love with control. The plutonian powers enabled the duplicitous observation of vulnerability of their Sun partner well in advance. The Sun, without an inkling of suspicion against their Pluto partner’s capacity to emotionally manipulate them, are easily receptive to the Pluto person’s will. There is always the prospect of obsessive tendencies developing in this combination. The Pluto person–having made the Sun person a star–could just as easily switch gears and cause immense emotional pain for the Sun if there is an abrupt change.

These negative associations with this aspect that could cause the light and breezy Sun-filled rapport into turn controlling, manipulative and dominating is much more common with the Pluto Square Sun or Pluto Opposition Sun in relationship Synastry.

There are two instances where the Pluto advantage over the Sun is lessened. A Scorpio Sun in conjunction with their Pluto person is not as vulnerable and there is a greater challenge of an intimate relationship where there is balance. If the planet Pluto is in Scorpio with both parties then power struggles are plausible but unlikely to stimulate codependency and instead only enhance the magnetism and intensity between two people.

  1. I wonder if he has this with me cuz it sounds the same. I loved him a lot but he never could see my side. He always was right no matter how bad or mean he was and he never once apologized for anything he ever did.

  2. I’m wondering if it makes a difference if it’s sun opposition Pluto verses sun conjunct Pluto? It just says Pluto and sun aspects and I can’t find much online. I’m wondering what the differences with the opposition and conjunction if any. Thanks

  3. I haven’t found this reading to be very accurate. In fact I found that if anything, the roles of the Sun and Pluto person described here are reversed in real life. I think the relationship between these two planets will differ a lot depending on what sign they are under in a chart. I do agree, however, that this aspect definitely points to a very deep and sometimes intense love relationship.

  4. I haven’t found this reading to be very accurate as well! I think that conjunction of the Sun and Pluto is much more felt when there is a age difference. In the book of Stephen Arroyo aspect between sun and pluto :
“unless the Pluto person voluntarily relinquishes the power that he or she has over the other individual, the other person may eventually find necessary to remove self entirely from the presence of this disturbing energy in order to be able to live and breathe freely.”

  5. I have a sister who’s Pluto exactly conjuncts my sun, and she continually tries to control, manipulate and force her will upon me and direct activities, which are always in her favour. She cannot put herself in others shoes and perpetually ‘makes blunders’ because of it, and because of her lack of knowledge which she thinks otherwise. Therefore she is toxic and standing up to her lies, inconstancies and jealousies is paramount for my sanity-even if this means ‘roaring’- thus having healthy boundaries! Being able to say no, calling the shots as they are, not as she fabricates them to be and making no excuses for her ‘dramas’ are essential! Therefore, although she would like to be boss, she never is!

  6. I have been sesrching for am article about this! I am in a Pluto/Sun DW relationship. His Pluto trines my sun/conj his moon in my 8th house. And my Pluto textiles his sun. There is an attempt to manipulate at times but because I can see his light and dark side I usually catch on yo what is going on. We do have pretty good open honest communication which is exhilarating. We boost each other egos. But although we have the “positive” aspects, i have to stay on my toes at all times. My personal growth efforts help pulling me out if the codependent ruts which seems to keep us on a constant cycle of transformation. His Pluto squares my moon which I know is a dangerous aspect and my Pluto opposite Venus creates a t-square to his mars. Hot, heavy, intense but I’m using this interaction as a tool for deep fulfillment and transformation. It is very addictive and unfulfilling at times–but I’m pulling more and more towards a structured program to keep my focus on kesrning how to fulfill my own needs and stand in my feminine power.

  7. Thank you for this post. I suspected that plutonian relationships were highly codependent. And i think ppl with pluto square sun in their charts have some covert narcissistic tendencies too. How they handle them depends on the whole of the chart.

  8. I have Venus opposite Pluto in my chart. I married a man whose Sun was exactly conjunct my Venus. And he has Sun opposite Pluto and Uranus in his chart. So it was a mutual bond. The opposition runs through the 5th/11th houses, with my Venus in the 5th. It was a very immature and at the same time magical relationship for me. It ended in betrayal, divorce and years of personal torture for me because I had to lose my pink glasses very abruptly. But what is strange and very Plutonian is we have two daughters and one of them has the Sun opposite Pluto. Her Sun is the same degree as her father’s. So I now have another person that triggers the same combination. I love her dearly, even obsessively and I am fascinated by her character the same way it has been with her father. I try to be very careful now. I want her to be strong and free. But she still says I have an enormous influence on her. And my other daughter has Venus trine Pluto. Just wanted to give you a more concrete example:)) Do you feel the Pluto magic? Those interactions are karmic, if karma exists. They are about very strong bonds. I am now so glad I have Venus locked into this combination. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone, but I learned a lot about the power of love this time around. And I am still learning. So if you are a Pluto in this kind of combination the lesson is probably to become more conscious and get out of your darkness. It may feel dangerous but look at the Sun and just go. You will surprise yourself.

  9. Cool. I am a 1 degree Scorpio with a love who has 1 degree Pluto and 1 degree vesta in Scorpio. I also have Venus and Neptune in Scorpio. He has South Node conjunct My Neptune exact. We have Sun and Mars and Mars and North Node conjunct. We are on equal footing. So not so naive about manipulation and I also have 22 years on them.

  10. I totally agree with is description, I met someone who sun trines my pluto orb two degrees, it felt like I could see into his soul, his pluto conjuncts my venus orb two degrees, his venus is 165 degrees apart from sun, uranus and pluto orb two degrees, two degrees and three degrees respectively. But he is a less intense more care free kind of person, i just could not show him i liked him, i still think about him to this day, five years later. Pluto is deep!!!!

  12. My mom is the Sun and my dad is Pluto and I’ve always felt that they were horrible for each other but yet she has stayed with him for 30 years. This sun-pluto conjunction is their tightest aspect in synastry. I guess that could explain why. They both also have their moons in Taurus and Junos both in Capricorn so I guess that can also explain why they’re still together despite the fact that I think my dad is an asshole and my mom shouldn’t put up with his verbal abuse. I myself have met a man whose Pluto conjuncts my Sun and I absolutely despised him. I thought he was an absolutely rude, crude and vile creature and couldn’t wait to get away from him! I don’t understand how anyone can like someone who has Pluto on their sun. No thanks.

  13. Oh wait I meant to say his Sun was conjunct my Pluto. My sun is in Taurus so there’s no way I could ever meet anyone with Pluto in Taurus unless I raise the dead lol. I’ve got Pluto in Scorpio and once met a man who had his Scorpio sun exactly conjunct mine. I despised him.
