Onset of Astral Projection Symptoms

Astral projection could be frightening to someone if the projection was involuntary or the subject has not learned of astral projection before their experience. The physical body is equipped with the five physical senses that one becomes completely dependent upon in order to explore the physical or material world. Beyond the perception of our senses, subtle bodies such as the etheric, astral, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies that create a multilayered halo encompassing our physical being. The transfer of consciousness from the physical body into another is projection. This is the same as an “outer body experience” or what is often depicted in “near death experiences” and is recognized as escaping the restraints of the physical body and being external from self.

There are often certain indications of astral projection but if astral projection had actually occurred, then there should be no doubt. However, in many cases of involuntary astral projection, confusion results from the experience as well as fear. The fear is bound to prompt many to seek answers to either confirm or dismiss it as Astral Projection. Do keep in mind that we astral project every night but we often do not recall the occurrence and memory begins to rapidly dissolve as one adjusts to a new level of consciousness. Therefore, astral projection is absolutely natural.

Please note that not all signs of the onset of an astral projection experiences will be precisely the same. The majority of accounts share commonalities that affirm their experiences are synchronized with others and the variations are often subtle. The list below is only the symptoms of the onset of consciously transferring from the physical vessel to the etheric and doesn’t encompass the entirety of an astral projection experience.

Sleep Paralysis: Sleep paralysis is a common experience on its own but there are cases when astral projection subsequently occurs. The mind may wake up but the body remains paralyzed and shifts (or what feels like slight turns and twists) are felt but it’s not actually the physical body that is moving. In fact, it is likely known that it isn’t quite the physical body that is moving at all but instead it will feel as though there is a subtle misalignment of the location of consciousness and the physical body. The consciousness had begun transfer into the etheric but remains in the physical; therefore these two vessels are out of alignment.

Auditory Pressure and Buzzing: There are many accounts of auditory stimulation that is accompanied by penetrating pressure that occurs prior to astral projection. Firsthand, it comes in and fades out in approximately three-second intervals. The pressure is undeniable and is felt from deep within the auditory canal and seems to resonate through the cranium. It is often accompanied with sound that resonates with the pressure. This could be loud booming, buzzing, humming or ringing or it might be as though every three seconds one is tuning into a satellite radio that is playing multiple stations at once. There are also projections that don’t appear to have a notable sound accompanying the penetrating pressure that occurs. (Sleep paralysis is not always a prerequisite to astral projection but it’s commonly associated with the experience.)

An experience with astral projection could occur while completely conscious, involuntary and simply from laying down or sitting in a comfortable position. The pressure in the auditory canal seems consistent with most cases and upon the onset of pressure there is a strong soporific effect. In personal accounts, profound and sudden relaxation consumes the physical body and is incredibly sedating.

Strong Vibration in Cranium or Chest: Those that astral project will likely feel a strong pulsation in their chest which appears to follow the auditory pressure and is rather brief. It might become stronger and almost feel as though there is something “pulling” you up. The pressure resonating in the torso precedes actual projection. There are also accounts of pressure in the ears and the sensation of the projection originates in the cranium such as the crown chakra center.

Conscious Shift: The conscious shift from the physical to the next vessel which is the etheric body or ether-body. The etheric body is a vital or subtle body propounded in esoteric philosophies as the next layer extending from the physical. It is otherwise thought of as the lowest layer of the aura. The initial shift might or might not entail the above symptoms and may entail sleep paralysis and the sensation of controlled movement or the ability to shift slightly with an awareness that the physical body is in paralysis. Further, if there are sensations felt that lead to the onset of projection then a force expels the consciousness outward and consciousness moves beyond the physical.

The Silver Cord: The silver cord is a term for the very durable connection between consciousness and the physical body that protects against disconnection or becoming lost in the astral world. It also ensures the connection to the physical remains intact and occurrences where the silver cord objects to the projection and efforts to move forward and outward are made, a profound sensation of being thrust back into the body may occur.

  1. This is helpful, Crystal Life Coach! I’m actually reading about this because of my experience last night. I even saw myself and my boyfriend sleeping, and I was like lying on my back, floating – above my body. It was different from my lucid dreams, but I can’t conclude yet that it was astral projection.
